No criminal charges will be filed against former Effingham County Board member Elizabeth Huston.
The Altamont resident owns an ambulance service in Altamont. In 2022, questions were raised by some Board members whether Huston acted properly during the negotiations on contracting with an ambulance service and the award of the contract to provide ambulance service for the county. The matter was referred to the Illinois Attorney General's Office due to a conflict of interest for the Effingham County State's Attorney's Office.
Effingham County State's Attorney Aaron Jones said he has been contacted by the Attorney General's Office that they have declined to prosecute the case. Jones said at the time of the start of the matter that a local State's Attorney has a conflict of interest in prosecuting such a case since he also defends the County Board and its individual members.
Huston resigned her seat on the County Board earlier this year.
