Cumberland school officials say the 1% sales tax in that county is paying dividends.
A form listing the Cumberland district's fund balances, tax rates and tax abatements were provided school board members at this month's meeting. Cumberland Superintendent Todd Butler said fund balances are in good shape, and the document shows the EAV, tax rates, and the $400,000 in property tax abatements are possible due to the sales tax that started in 2017.
Also this month, the Cumberland board passed the tax levy for the coming fiscal year, and a $50,000 abatement of the Bond and Interest Levy was approved. The Board also purchased Workers Compensation insurance for 2025 with Previsor through Imming Insurance.
In personnel moves, the Cumberland board accepted resignations from Amy Carr as middle school assistant girls basketball coach, Samara James as middle school head girls basketball coach, and Kade Warner as middle school assistant girls track coach. Each of the resignations was effective immediately. Three people were employed for the 2025-2026 school year including Jonathon Matthews as a special education teacher, Donald Kimura as a middle school special education teacher, and Lexie Niebrugge as a middle school Math teacher. Also, Kyle Cash was employed as a middle school head girls track coach.
