Fire Damages Structure at Heartville

Fire damaged a structure on the north edge of Heartville Wednesday afternoon. No one was injured.

The call came at 308pm, just off US Route 45 and just south of Dutch Lane, on Georgia Street. 

Effingham and Shumway firefighters assisted Watson firefighters on scene. Effingham Assistant Fire Chief Matt Kulesza said the fire appears to have started in weeds and trash outside the building, then got under a cover on the building and spread inside. Kulesza said firefighters had the fire out within 10 minutes. Firefighters had cleared the scene within an hour of the call. 

Also assisting were Effingham County dispatchers and Rural Med EMS.
