The village of Dieterich continues to move ahead with its flood hazard mitgation project.
The project is designed to buy up and then demolish houses along the creek that meanders through the village. Flooding in recent years damaged a number of homes.
Village board members awarded a bid to H&K Excavating for the demolition of a house at 105 North Vine Street that was damaged. H&K will demolish the house on the property for $9,700. Another $2,500 will be expended to abate asbestos in flooring at the house.
This is the fourth in the series of flood buyouts along the creek.
The Dieterich board also passed their tax levy, which is up by 5% of what was extended in taxes last year. There was discussion of what might be done to light up a dark intersection by Dollar General. There was discussion on whether to buy a street sweeper being sold by Teutopolis, but it was decided to continue renting one as needed. As for a creek bank clearing project, it was decided to get to work once the area freezes this winter.
