Lake Land College officials have heard that the cost of dual credit classes can be a barrier to taking those courses.

In an effort to address those concerns, the college is instituting the Laker Connect.

The initiative will be effective Fall Semester 2025.

The college has found that, on average, one-third of high school graduates in the Lake Land district taking dual credit are heading on to Lake Land. The goal of Laker Connect in a two-year pilot project is to increase the number of enrollees to 37%.

Under the initiative, for school districts in the Lake Land district that sign a Laker Connect intergovernmental agreement, dual credit students could pay up to half what students from districts that don't sign the intergovernmental agreement.

The Lake Land Board of Trustees voted to offer the pilot program at this month's meeting.
