Fire Destroys Home in St. James

 A house in the St. James community in Fayette County was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning.

St. Elmo Fire Chief Doug Engeljohn said the fire at the home of Lisa Stine and David Emert was reported at 2:40am. Engeljohn said the older single-story structure was fully involved in flames when firefighters reached the scene. He said the fire melted some siding on a house to the east of the burning structure, but said there were no injuries in either home.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but could have been the result of a wood stove.

Firefighters from St. Elmo, Altamont, Brownstown and St. Peter were all on scene. Engeljohn said firefighters finally cleared the scene about 6:30am.
