Numbers in from First Week of Firearm Deer Season

Hunters in Illinois harvested a preliminary total of 54,661 deer during the first weekend of the Illinois firearm deer season between November 22-24. 

763 deer were taken in Effingham County, about 100 more than two years ago and 70 more than last year.

As far as area counties, 

--Clay County--1,118 this year, compared to 889 in 2022 and 1,007 in 2023

--Cumberland County--575 this year, compared to 542 in 2022 and 511 last year

--Fayette County--1,298 this year, compared to 1,184 in 2022 and 1,166 last year

--Jasper County--851 this year, compared to 794 in 2022 and 784 last year

--Shelby County--921 this year, compared to 883 in 2022 and 895 last year.

Illinois' seven-day firearm deer season will conclude December 5-8.
