Altamont Council Approves Using Conex Containers for Coffee Shop Project

Altamont city council members Monday voted to reverse the recommendation of the city's zoning board and allow use of Conex containers for a commercial building structure at Gilbert Park.
The project will be at the entrance to the park, replacing a red building that will be taken down. Two Conex containers will be utilized to develop a coffee shop to be called Feed the Crave. One will be used for walkup traffic, the other will be used for drive-thru business, there will not be any indoor customer service.
Shaun Splechter will operate the business. Proceeds will go to mission causes.
Council members heard that a bid opening will be held in January for a water main replacement project along Main Street in Altamont, from Route 40 to Monroe Street.
The Council voted to purchase a street sweeper to replace a 2007 model that had been acquired earlier. The one being purchased is a 2005 model that will fit the countour of city streets, at a cost of $17,092.50.
Council members also voted to execute a RMA min/max insurance contribution for liability, property and Workers Compensation coverage at a 1% premium increase.
