Effingham County September Jobless Rate Up from Year Ago

Effingham County's September jobless rate was 3.5%. That compares to a 3.2% rate in September 2023.
Total nonfarm employment increased by 450 in September 2024 compared to a year ago.
Employment gains were posted at worksites in Leisure-Hospitality (+175), Trade-Transportation-Utilities (+150), Government (+100), Professional-Business Services (+75), Financial Activities (+25), Other Services (+25) and Private Education-Health Services (+25).
Year-over-year, payrolls were unchanged among employers in the Natural Resources-Mining and Construction sectors.
Payroll job losses occurred among employers in the Manufacturing (-75) and Information (-25) sectors.
Neighboring counties and their jobless rates for September were:
Coles--4.2%, down from 4.5% in September 2023
Cumberland--3.2%, down from 3.4%
Shelby--4.1%, down from 4.4%
Clay--5.2%, down from 5.3%
Fayette--4.4%, down from 4.5%
and Jasper--4.1%, up from 4%.
The statewide jobless rate for Illinois in September was 5%, up from 4.7% in September 2023.
