Effingham County is proving to be the exception rather than the rule when it comes to voter turnout.

Effingham County Clerk Michelle Kollmann, who serves as election authority for the county, told the Effingham County Board Monday that there have been 2,000 votes already cast. The number stood at 2,072 at the close of business Monday.

Kollmann said she has spoken with election officials in a couple of other counties in the region and their turnout is in the hundreds.

Early Voting is possible on the first floor of the Effingham County Office Building weekdays between 8am and 4pm.
