An Illinois State Trooper was fatally injured as the result of a vehicle crash in Champaign County.

Trooper Corey S. Thompsen died from injuries he received in a crash at 3:42pm Friday. A truck driven by 32-year-old Helen Torres of Thomasboro stopped at a rural intersection, then pulled into the intersection and struck Trooper Thompsen's motorcycle. He was taken for treatment, but died at 4:32pm.

Torres was taken for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Torres was cited for failure to yield and for no valid driver's license.

Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly said, "This is the first, and I hope the last, trooper who I personally administered the oath of an ISP officer to that I've lost in a line of duty death."

Trooper Thompsen was 28 years old and served almost five years as an officer with ISP. Trooper Thompsen was assigned to the Special Operations Group Fatal Four Team. He is survived by his wife Chelsea, mother Susan, father Steve, and brothers.
