Ray Tate, the man already serving life in prison for shooting to death a Wayne County sheriff's deputy late in 2021, Wednesday pleaded guilty in Clinton County to a series of counts stemming from incidents later that day.

Tate pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated kidnapping, along with counts of home invasion and aggravated possession of stolen firearms.

The Clinton County charges are the result of Tate forcing his way into a rural Carlyle home with a man whose car he had carjacked and holding both the car driver and the homeowner captive during a police standoff. The two men were ultimately released unharmed.

Tate had fled to Missouri after fatally shooting Deputy Sean Riley in Wayne County and is charged with still other offenses there.

Tate was sentenced to 30 years in prison on each of the first three Clinton County offenses and 10 years in prison on the firearms count. He will be placed on three years mandatory supervised release once out of prison and was fined $5,000 for each offense.
