Effingham County 911 board members Tuesday approved the addition of StarCom radios for use by the Effingham Fire Department.

The radios would be utilized by the firefighters when en route to emergency scenes so they can monitor activities before reaching the scene.

The Board also approved a proposed budget for the coming fiscal year for layover, with final action on the measure in November. The new fiscal year will begin in December.

System Administrator Tina Daniels said information was shared at this month's state 9-1-1 briefing that Illinois State Police might like to have review over 9-1-1 funds, and that state 9-1-1 officials see no need for the oversight.

The 9-1-1 Board also awarded inspection of the Effingham tower site to GTSi of Effingham for a bid of $4,500.
