An Effingham resident was injured in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

Effingham County Sheriff's Office reports a car driven by 18-year-old Maddox Burner was northbound on 1200th Street, just north of 1000th Avenue, just after 1am. Burner told deputies that he fell asleep and the last thing he remembered was hearing a rumbling sound and the vehicle overturned.

Deputies said the vehicle entered the ditch on the east side of 1200th Street and traveled approximately 100 feet before flipping onto its side, coming to rest partially in the ditch and partially on the roadway.

Burner was taken by Rural Med EMS to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

Deputies cited Burner for illegal consumption of liquor, failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, and improper lane usage.
