The topic of human trafficking will be addressed in Effingham this week in a series of presentations by Jaco Booyens, who speaks internationally on the subject.

Human trafficking is a subject of interest to the Effingham area, with Interstates 57 and 70 coming through the community.

Booyens will be meeting with school and civic groups on Wednesday and Thursday, but there are two gatherings open to the public scheduled for Thursday.

One of those meetings is a breakfast session at Keller Convention Center from 7:30am to 9:00am. There will be a $10 charge for the breakfast, with the proceeds to be used by the 57/70 Task Force to support efforts locally to raise awareness, enhance understanding and equip the community with the tools needed to identify and prevent trafficking.

The other public session will be this Thursday evening from 6 to 8pm, also at the Convention Center. That gathering is free.
