A car and semi collided on Illinois Route 33 in Douglas Township Thursday morning.

The crash happened a quarter-mile west of 1600th Street.

Effingham County Sheriff's Office reported that a car driven by 26-year-old Jaden Kidd of Effingham was westbound when Kidd dropped her cell phone and bent over to retrieve it. As the driver bent over, her vehicle crossed over the centerline and struck a semi driven by 40-year-old Paul Francene of Elmont, New York.

The semi ran off the highway and ended up in a cornfield.

Kidd was cited for improper lane usage.

Francene was injured and was taken by Rural Med EMS to HSHS St. Anthony's.
