Car and Semi Collide in Jackson Township

Two vehicles collided in Jackson Township just before 1pm Thursday.

Effingham County Sheriff's Office said 19-year-old Maleeha Higgs of Altamont was traveling northbound on 750th Street and turning left onto 825th Avenue. 46-year-old Matthew Irwin of Wheeler was travelnig east on 825th Avenue and was turning right onto 750th Street. The semi driven by Irwin came into Higgs' lane, causing Higgs' vehicle to spin around. Irwin's semi came to rest in the ditch.

Higgs was injured and was taken by Rural Med EMS to HSHS St. Anthony's.

Higgs was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
