Authorities were investigating a multi-vehicle crash east of Effingham Thursday evening.

Teutopolis firefighters reported four semis and five cars were involved in the crash, but indications are that no major injuries resulted.

Teutopolis and Montrose firefighters were called to I-70 eastbound, three miles west of Montrose, at 5:19pm. Three of the vehicles ended up on the frontage road. Five people were taken for treatment. The barrier wall at the scene of the crash ended up partially in the westbound lanes.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 7:42pm, about 2-1/2 hours after being called to the scene.
