Area Service Member Earns Promotion

Cowden native Seth Barnes recently achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class in the U.S. Navy.
ABF1 Barnes, who is a 2013 Cowden-Herrick graduate, left for Navy boot camp following his HS graduation and in the past 11 years has completed 3 deployments to the Middle East and Mediterranean Sea aboard the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier. Currently Barnes is stationed on the USS John C. Stennis, which is in the Naval shipyard in Virginia for a complete overhaul.
In addition to making rank, Seth was recently given the opportunity to represent his AB rate at the 53rd Aviation Boatswains Mate Association Professional Working Group in San Diego, CA. The annual ABMA working group is a gathering of subject matter experts from each of the AB Rates to discuss and improve past, current and future issues and protocols to enhance the capability of our Navy’s Flight Deck Warriors.
Seth is the son of Trent Barnes and Tracy Colclasure and Father to Greer and Walker Barnes. His Father, along with Deb Riley & family and grandparents Loren and Sharon Barnes attended his pinning ceremony in Hampton, VA.
