A semi rolled over early Thursday morning in Douglas County and its load of cattle ended up causing traffic problems.

The incident was reported at approximately 2:29am. Illinois State Police responded to a report of a rolled over truck-tractor with a cattle hauler trailer. Over a dozen cows got loose and began walking across both the northbound and southbound lanes.

Approximately 20 minutes after the initial crash, a truck-tractor semi-trailer traveling on northbound I-57 struck one of the loose cows. The northbound lanes of I-57 between Arcola and Tuscola were closed for the investigation and roadway cleanup.  All lanes were reopened at 9:13am.

No human injuries were reported.
