Teutopolis resident Roddnie C. Deters faces a Class X felony count of armed violence following his arrest by Effingham City Police.

Effingham City Police Chief Jason McFarland said officers found the 23-year-old Deters unconscious about 3am Thursday in a vehicle at a stop sign with a loaded handgun on his lap. The report indicates that there was a quantity of methamphetamine in the vehicle.

A conviction on the armed violence count would mean mandatory prison time.

Deters was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and a traffic count.

Deters is next due in court on August 22.
