Local Worker Prevents Scam from Happening

An employee of the Dollar General store at Teutopolis has prevented a local resident from becoming the victim of a scam.

The relative of a local resident said her mother-in-law was phoned by a scam artist. The scammer asked the elderly victim to send him an amount of money to qualify for a larger amount of cash. The anticipated victim went to the Dollar General to get the funds to send to the scammer. 

Store employee Erica Haynes, though, intervened, telling the almost-victim that the scheme was a hoax. Haynes saved the victim $500.

The almost-victim told her children, who contacted us. They wanted to commend Haynes for her assistance, but also to warn others so they won't become a victim.
