Buzzard Recommended for County Board Committee Posts

Members of the Effingham County Board Legislative Committee Monday concurred with newly-appointed member Mike Buzzard taking over committee seats formerly held by Elizabeth Huston, who resigned from the Board recently.

Those include the Transportation, Reports, and Childcare Research committees. 

The committee recommended the County observe the same holidays in 2025 as in 2024. Also recommended was the appointment of four individuals as drainage district trustees. The four include Joe Niemerg to the Island Grove Drainage District, Curtis Stortzum to the Lucas Township Drainage District, Dennis Niemerg to the South Island Drainage District, and Steve Borries to the St. Francis Township Drainage District.

There was also discussion of Opiate Settlement funds and how they could be used. There has been discussion of a committee to oversee use of the dollars, either via the Health Department or the County Board. A combination of the two bodies is also a possibility.

All of the items recommended for approval by the Legislative Committee will be considered for final approval by the County Board at next Monday's meeting. County Board member Sandi Rich was not present for the meeting.
