Groundbreaking Ceremony Scheduled for Runway Extension

A groundbreaking ceremony for a runway extension project at Effingham County Regional Airport has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 4.

The ceremony will begin at 10:30am.

The Effingham County Airport Commission has been working with Hanson Professional Services of Springfield, the US Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration, and the Illinois Division of Aeronautics on the runway extension project. The FAA officially approved the project in December 2023.

The project is an extension of the primary east-west runway by 898 feet, and an extension of the parallel taxiway. With the preparation work of obstruction removal, road relocation, and environmental assessment completed, the Airport Commission is ready for the groundbreaking.
