Jobless Rates for June Up Again

Unemployment rates in Illinois again in June were higher than they were one year earlier.

The Effingham County jobless rate for June was at 4.3%, up from 3.1% in June 2023.

Total nonfarm employment in the county in June was up by 25 jobs from a year earlier.

Employment gains in the county were up in Government (200); Professional and Business Services (150); Trade, Transportation and Utilities (150); Leisure and Hospitality (100); and Financial Activities (25).

Year-over-year, payrolls were unchanged in the county in Natural Resources and Mining; Information and Other Services sectors.

Payroll job losses in the county during June occurred in the Private Education and Health Services (-300); Manufacturing (-150) and Construction (-150) sectors.

Area counties and their unemployment rates in June:

Coles--5.9%, up from 4.9%

Cumberland--4.2%, up from 3.6%

Shelby--5.4%, up from 4.5%

Clay--6%, up from 5.3%

Fayette--5.6%, up from 4.7%

Jasper--5%, up from 4%.

The statewide jobless rate for June was 6.1%, up from 4.8%.
