Human trafficking is something that area residents might think happens elsewhere, but there are many cases that occur locally.

Effingham Noon Rotarians learned more about the subject at their meeting earlier this month.

The volume of traffic through the Effingham area from across the nation leads to activity at local truck stops. Those locations are often where victims of trafficking can be located.

Ann Deters and Beverly Soltwedel joined Norma Lansing for the presentation to Rotary. Lansing was the weekly program chairman for the presentation.

All three women are part of the I-57/70 Task Force that works to end trafficking and get the word out about what to look for that could lead to assisting those who are victims of trafficking or to assist law enforcement agencies about possible cases.
