Joshua Jones is the newest associate judge in Illinois’ 8th Circuit Court.

Jones’ investiture ceremony took place Friday morning at the Adams County Courthouse. He’s been the Lead Trial Attorney at the Adams County State’s Attorney’s office since 2016. In total, he has spent more than 20 years in the office.

Judge Jones spoke on how he grew up in the country in Jasper County, before graduating from Quincy University in 1999.

He said he knows there will be an adjustment moving to the other side of the bench, but he’s ready for the challenge.

“I think the best advice that I’ve gotten is from my kids. One of our favorite musicals is Hamilton and in Hamilton there’s a line where he says talk less, smile more and I like to think as a judge that’s kind of how I would proceed with the cases. I don’t need to talk as much, that’s not my role anymore. My job is there to call balls and strikes,” said Judge Jones.
