Effingham Cty Council members acted on a number of matters at this week's meeting.

The Council approved installation of a stop sign in Rollin Hills Subdivision, at the intersection of Rollin Hills Boulevard and North and South Lakewood Drive. Also approved was an annexation agreement with Ted and Angie Thompson in Vonderheide Farm Subdivision, an amendment to an agreement with Innovative Wastewater Treatment Cooperative and Prairie Ace Estatse, and a rezoning of land on the west side of South Raney Street at Parker Drive from non-urban to light industrial for development of Old Dominion Freight Line.

Council members approved a professional service agreement with Great Lakes Urban Forestry for a tree inventory and an urban forestry management plan. The project will be funded by a $50,000 grant and will improve the environment within the city. The Council also granted Effingham High School permission to hold the 2024 Homecoming Parade on Wednesday, September 25, and approved a downtown/southtown business area redevelopment agreement with Amanda Haynes for work on Uptown Plaza just south of the Effingham Police Department headquarters. The Council also learned that bids will be opened soon on a 600-foot extension of Ford Avenue, headed east of the current end of the pavement.

The Council approved replatting three lots into two lots at the intersection of Rollin Hills Boulevard and Keller Drive for the Mayhood Trust, and replatted property along Cherry Street, south of Grove Avenue, from three lots into one lot for a multi-unit apartment development.
