An Indiana teenager died in the Wabash River Saturday.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office was summoned at 10:15am to an area southeast of West Union. They learned the 15-year-old boy was in the water playing with family members. He was swept away and was seen going under the surface of the water. The boy was located just after 2pm Saturday. The teenager was from Merom, Indiana.

A statement from the sheriff's office indicated that "as proud as we are of the response from so many, we are so heartbroken with the outcome."

Those assisting with the search included the Illinois and Indiana Departments of Natural Resources, Illinois State Police, Clark County E-911, Clark County Ambulance Service, West Union Fire Department, Crawford County Water Rescue, Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, and first responders from farther away. Many area residents and businesses also assisted.
