Jasper County board members have awarded several transportation projects.

The Fox Township Bridge, located three miles northeast of Shamrock, will be replaced for $463,507.80. A soil cement project running from 1.2 miles north of the Rose Hill village limits to a half mile south of the village limits on 1200 East will be undertaken for $270,775.30. A West Liberty Road soil cement project was awarded for $667,703.71.

Also this month, Jessica Wells shared information on the U of I extension program. Wells mentioned that Jasper County Extension is moving and will have about 5,000 square feet of space.

Board members heard that Imagine This has completed a County of Jasper/City of Newton website prototype. Once the County and City have signed off on the final version the website will go live...probably still at least a month away.

Agreement has been reached to make a school resource officer available to the Jasper Unit 1 school district. The agreement is between Jasper County and the school district. The school district will cover 80% of the cost. The goal is to have the officer in place by the start of the coming school year. The Jasper Unit 1 School Board approved the agreement at this month's meeting.

County board members also adopted an amended budget for the current fiscal year. The budget includes a $55,000 salary line item to cover the cost of an investigator for the state's attorney's office.
