State elections officials have officially dismissed a complaint alleging illegal campaign coordination in the 2022 race for Illinois governor.

Capitol News Illinois reports the State Board of Elections' action Tuesday followed a hearing officer’s recommendation to throw out allegations against conservative political operative Dan Proft and former State Senator Darren Bailey.

The hearing officer says the Democrats who brought the complaint didn’t show enough evidence to find Proft and Bailey illegally colluded in Bailey’s 2022 challenge against Governor JB Pritzker.

But the hearing officer also noted that Illinois law doesn’t specifically say what constitutes illegal coordination, and recommended state elections officials adopt rules to clarify it.

The Board of Elections’ co-chair indicated the board would take a pass on that recommendation and wait for the General Assembly’s direction.
