Milleville's Letter of Resignation as Altamont Mayor

We have obtained a copy of the letter of resignation submitted this week by former Altamont Mayor Dan Milleville. The letter was submitted Tuesday, the day after a meeting of the Altamont City Council.

The letter, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, is as follows:

"It has been an honor and priviledge to serve the City of Altamont as a City Councilman and your Mayor. However, effective immediately, I am resigning my position. I have always given my heart and soul to the responsibilities of Mayor but it has now come to a time where I can no longer go forward dealing with the chaos of my council. We are all a team of elected officials and must work together. This chaos affects progress, morale and productivity. As Mayor, I looked to my council to be problem solvers rather than always pointing out problems with no solutions. Thank you to everyone that assisted me as I was transitioning from Councilman to Mayor. I wish all the best for you and the residents of Altamont. Regards, Dan E. Milleville"

According to the Altamont Municipal Code, Mike Walker, current Commissioner of Parks and Cemetery, will serve as Mayor Pro Tem until the November 5th election, at which time Altamont residents will vote for candidates to complete the remainder of the four-year term. Illinois State Statute requires that when 28 months of a four-year term remain, the position is filled at the next general election.

The City of Altamont will be providing updates regarding submitting names for the Mayor's position on the November 5th ballot.
