Altamont Mayor Dan Milleville Tuesday presented a letter of resignation to City Clerk Sarah Stephen. The resignation is effective immediately.
Milleville began serving as City Commissioner of Parks & Cemetery when he was appointed to a Council vacancy. He served in that position until the time he was elected and received the Mayor’s Oath in May 2023.
As set by the Altamont Municipal Code, Mike Walker, current Commissioner of Parks & Cemetery will serve as Mayor Pro Tem until the November 5th election, at which time Altamont residents will vote for candidates to complete the remainder of the four-year term. Illinois State Statute requires that when 28 months of a four -year term remain, the position is filled at the next general election.
The State Board of Elections has been contacted concerning the interim election process. Updates will be provided regarding submitting names for the Mayor’s position on the November 5th ballot.
