Former Local Resident Killed in Crash West of Mattoon

A former local resident was killed in a crash west of Mattoon Monday morning.

47-year-old Jennie Ashley was fatally injured in a two-vehicle collision at Western Avenue and Dole Road about 7am. 

Ashley was also known during her years in Effingham County as Jennie Vail. She was currently working as a correctional officer in the Champaign County Sheriff's Office, but also worked in recent years as a correctional officer in the Effingham County Sheriff's Office. 

Ashley was off-duty at the time of the crash.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
