The 2024 Torch Run for Special Olympics began its Effingham leg at 8am today, heading out from the lawn of the Effingham County Courthouse Museum.

Members of the Effingham County Lightning squad began the run, then handed off the torch to members of the Illinois State Police, Effingham County Sheriff's Office, and Effingham City Police Department who embarked on a run to Mattoon. Torch runs from across the state will end in Bloomington. The State Special Olympics will be conducted this weekend on the campus of Illinois State University and other locations in Bloomington and Normal.

Taylor Law Offices continued their annual tradition of having cookies available for the participating Special Olympians and playing music to accompany the athletes.
