Effingham City Council members Tuesday voted to award the first phase of street resurfacing work around town.
Effingham Asphalt will do the work for $586,810.54.
The Council also discussed a professional service agreement from Crawford, Murphy and Tilly for water treatment plant improvements. The project would involve design of a new water intake supply from CIPS Lake, west of Effingham. The cost of the design work is estimated at $140,000.
City Police Chief Jason McFarland announced two promotions in the department. One is the promotion of Trey Dasenbrock to Sergeant. Dasenbrock succeeds Scott Volpi, who recently retired from the police force. McFarland also announced the appointment of Ashley Ruholl as a new police officer, filling a vacancy on the force.
The Council accepted a quote from IMCO Utility Support Company for water main materials. The materials are needed for work along St. Louis Avenue from Main Street to the dead end. The materials will cost $39,808.87. Also approved was an agreement with Quicket Solutions for software and service work to produce accident reports and submit the data to IDOT.
Council members also heard from Kristopher Walton of Illinois Housing Development Authority with findings from their housing needs assessment for Effingham.
City Commissioner Merv Gillenwater was not present for Tuesday's meeting.
