Forbes State Recreation Area Superintendent Clint Benhoff says most of the storm damaged facilities at Forbes have reopened.

Benhoff says the main east entrance, the beach, and East Marina are once again open. The Equestrian Campground remains closed as considerable work will be required to repair damage that included total destruction of the horse barn. Benhoff says at this point no plans have been finalized for replacing the barn. The White Oak Day Use also remains closed.

While the main campground never closed, Benhoff says electricity has been restored and operations are back to normal.

Benhoff is appreciative of at least a dozen Illinois Department of Natural Resources employees from other facilities who have joined in the effort to clear damage at Forbes and get it reopened.

The National Weather Service reported two tornadoes hit in the park area near Kinmundy during the severe weather on Sunday night.
