The Effingham City Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday granted a variance allowing an electronic message board to be installed on the northeast corner of Evergreen Avenue and Maple Street at Evergreen Hollow Park.
Hillary Kopplin of the Effingham Park District told board members that the sign will be used to remind the public about program signups and related events. The sign will also promote activities at the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex farther north on Maple Street and the HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Clinic located in the complex.
There were concerns shared about the light from the sign bothering neighbors across the street. The City also plans to monitor whether the sign would be a distraction for motorists. The variance allowing the sign came with a provision that it would be shut off from 10pm to 6am.
The Board also granted a variance allowing Daniel Dasenbrock to put up an accessory building at 2500 S. Veterans Drive. The building will be located on a lot separate from the one where Dasenbrock's home is located. Dasenbrock plans to store antique tractors and vehicles in the building.
Tuesday's meeting was also the first for new members Don Bushue and Brandon Weber.
