The US Postal Service has announced plans to pause the proposed plan to eliminate mail processing at Processing and Distribution Centers through the end of 2024.

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced in March plans to eliminate mail processing at Processing and Distribution Centers in four locations including Champaign, which handles mail for the Effingham area.

US Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth hailed the news, saying, "Far too many families depend on the postal service to conduct business, vote, pay bills, receive lifesaving prescription drugs, get their Social Security checks and stay in touch with loved ones."
