Drowning Incident at Olney Saturday

A person drowned Saturday afternoon in an incident near Olney. The incident was reported just after 3:30pm.

A number of emergency agencies including the Effingham County Dive Rescue Team were called to Borah Beach when a swimmer did not resurface. After a few hours of searching, the 30-year-old victim was located underwater and was pronounced dead. The person's name is not available.

Other agencies assisting at the scene were the Olney Police Department, Olney Lake Patrol, Olney Fire Department and Richland County Sheriff’s Department, along with Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois State Police, Vincennes Township Fire Dive Team, Crawford County Dive Team and Jasper County EMA.

The incident remains under investigation.
