Clay County board members said farewell just ahead of this week's meeting to longtime member Ted Whitehead, who left the Board after 15 years of service.
Whitehead served as Board chairman for much of his tenure. His spot on the Board will be filled within 60 days. Chairman Joe Goodman also named Dave Johnson to chair the Clay County Hospital Committee to replace Whitehead, and appointed Janice Brooks to take Whitehead's spot on the committee.
The Clay board approved 3% pay increases for County officials who will begin new terms following the November election, and voted to purchase land. The $44,846 purchase was necessary since a septic tank for the animal shelter and other nearby buildings were on a neighbor's property. 1.1 acres were acquired.
Clay and Effingham County Health Department Administrator Jeff Workman shared the State is considering legislation that would help fund health departments. Workman also mentioned possible threats posed by bird flu, deer ticks that could carry Lyme Disease, and the need to test Blacklegged ticks.
