Work to Proceed on Local Airport Projects

Documents are being signed to proceed with extension of the east-west runway at Effingham County Regional Airport. Information on the work was shared at this month's meeting of the Effingham County Airport Commission. 

Work is also to move ahead with reconstruction of the Airport Road, east from the intersection with US Route 45. The project will include access to the businesses along the roadway, and 4th Street will remain available. 

Airport Commission Chairman Tony Siemer said a T-hangar construction project should still proceed this year. Siemer said the airport's upgrade to regional status will mean more funding that will reimburse Effingham County for the cost of an environmental impact study.
