Two Arrested in Connection w/Disturbance on West Side Saturday Morning

A man is recovering following an alleged attack in the west part of Effingham early Saturday morning.

Effingham City Police Chief Jason McFarland said 27-year-old Mason W. Edinger of Montrose was arrested on two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of mob action, and a count of aggravated assault for allegedly striking a man in the head with a camping shovel. The incident occurred about 5:30am in the 600 block of Edgar Avenue. Police were notified of a disturbance. McFarland said the victim was bleeding profusely from the head area. He was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Also arrested in connection with the incident was 40-year-old Kenny R. Martin of Effingham on counts of aggravated battery and mob action.

Edinger and Martin were in court Monday morning. They were ordered detained and are next due in court on Wednesday.
