A project to build a new downtown location for Midland States Bank can move ahead after approval Tuesday by the Effingham City Plan Commission.
The bank has plans for a close to 10,000 square foot, two-story structure to be located on the northwest corner of 4th Street and Section Avenue. The bank's downtown operation will be relocated to the new facility from their current longtime building along Jefferson Avenue.
Work is expected to begin once some replatting of the site is completed, the alley that has run between the current facility and the drive-thru facility is rededicated, and a utility agreement is approved allowing the City to repair a sewer and a tunnel is taken care of underneath the alley.
The larger building is no longer needed since Midland States built their corporate headquarters on Effingham's northeast side along Althoff Drive.
