Details Released on Tuesday Crash on Route 40

The Effingham County Sheriff's Office has released details on a three-vehicle accident that occurred Tuesday afternoon on US Route 40 just west of 700th Street in Jackson Township.

The crash happened at 3:42pm. A car driven by a 17-year-old male from Altamont was traveling eastbound while a Unit 40 driver's education vehicle driven by a 15-year-old student driver from Effingham was traveling westbound. A car driven by 19-year-old Jordan Pokalsey of Altamont was traveling westbound behind the driver's ed vehicle. 

Deputies report that the easttbound vehicle crossed the center line and entered the westbound lane and struck the driver's ed vehicle. The driver's ed vehicle spun and collided with the Pokalsey vehicle.

The 17-year-old was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, while Pokalsey was cited for operating an uninsured vehicle. 

The 17-year-old and Pokalsey were both injured and were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.
