One Person Fatally Injured, Another in Critical Condition From Crash at Moccasin Road and Lake Sara Road Wednesday

One person was killed and another is in critical condition following a three-vehicle collision at Moccasin Road and Lake Sara Road Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 4pm when a car was rear-ended by another vehicle, forcing the rear-ended vehicle into the rear of another vehicle.

The person killed was pronounced dead at the scene. The other person is a patient at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Illinois State Police, Effingham County Sheriff's deputies, the Effingham County Coroner's Office, local fire companies, county and township highway officials and Rural Med EMS were among the emergency services and law enforcement personnel on scene. Accident reconstructionists completed their work and the intersection was reopened just before 9pm.

Additional information on the crash will be released later today. An autopsy on the person killed in the crash will be completed today.
