Altamont City Council members Monday set the price for the residential lots being developed in South Point Subdivision.
The Council set the price per lot at $5,000. The vote on the price was 4-1, with Mayor Dan Milleville voting against. The Mayor indicated the price should be higher and more in line with the market.
There are 15 lots available. The purchaser will have 18 months to complete the construction project.
The Council also extended for one more year the option held on 24 acres of land that could be developed residentially. The land is owned by FCC Limited Partnership. The vote to extend the option was 3-2, with Milleville and Commissioner Terry White voting against the extension.
Council members agreed to ask the Zoning Board to recommend how Conex trailers should be regulated. The Council proposed that the containers be allowed in industrial zoning, but not in commercial or residential zoning, but would like a recommendation from the zoning board.
The Council voted to ask South Central Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission to develop an OSLAD grant request from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The City will pay South Central $2.500 to submit a request for funding for improvements to Gilbert Park. The work could include new fencing and lighting as well as ADA-compliant restrooms.
The Altamont Council approved a request from the Altamont Masonic Lodge to conduct a 2024 Memorial Day parade. The parade will step off at 10am on Monday, May 27 from Altamont Community High School, travel west on Division Street to Main Street, and then north on Main to Union Cemetery.
Also approved was a controlled burn request by the Altamont American Legion Post to conduct a dignified disposal of unserviceable flags, to be held at Scmidt Park at 6pm on Flag Day, June 14. A box will be placed at the Municipal Building for the flags a couple of weeks prior to the ceremony.
The Council also approved two special use liquor licenses; one for Barn and Bottle Winery and one for Wylewood Cellars for a SAFE Fundraiser Yappy Hour at Schmidt Park on May 19.
