A blown transformer caused problems at Stevens Industries at their Teutopolis plant Monday.

Teutopolis Fire Protection District firefighters were called at 9:46am to Stevens' West Main Street location due to reports of smoke coming from the building. When firefighters arrived, evacuation of Stevens' employees was in progress. The employees reported hearing some type of explosion. The noise was due to the blown transformer within the complex, but no fire resulted. Smoke had collected in portions of the plant, but firefighters used fans to remove the smoke.

AMEREN crews arrived just after 10am and isolated power to the transformer.

No one was injured, and there was no structural damage. Portions of the plant remained closed for the remainder of the day.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 11:19am. AMEREN crews will handle repairs and replacement of the transformer.
