There's a lot to like about Altamont. Many of those assets were shared during Tuesday morning's PAVE Community Breakfast, held in Altamont's Carriage House Event Center.

PAVE is an acronym for Promoting a Vision for Effingham County. PAVE breakfasts are held throughout the county, sharing information about happenings in the various county communities and promoting shared goals for the entire county. Courtney Yockey of The Alliance served as emcee for the event.

Information was shared Tuesday by Altamont Mayor Dan Milleville, Altamont School Superintendent Casey Adam, and Altamont Chamber of Commerce President Jessica Polk.

The keynote speaker was lifelong Altamont resident Kurt Becker, who has remained a hometown boy despite notoriety as the track announcer for Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, and an announcer for NASCAR broadcasts on the Motor Racing Network.

Becker discussed his love for, and pride in, his hometown. He said it's the people who make the community, and that each person in the community plays a part in its success. He admitted that speaking before the home folks was a little intimidating, but also an encouragement to do his best with his presentation.

For their parts, Mayor Milleville shared the various infrastructure projects the City has underway including a new residential subdivision, Superintendent Adam discussed the proposed 1% sales tax to appear on the November ballot and how the resulting revenue could benefit a school district in need of facility expansion for additional classrooms, and Polk shared the number of Altamont businesses hitting longevity milestones and upcoming community events.

The next PAVE Community Breakfast will be held on Thursday, September 19 at the Wright Family Center in Dieterich.
