The name has been released of the man whose body was found in a pond at Altamont Sunday evening.
Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes said the man was 30-year-old Jacob Lee McGuire, who was last known to be living in Montrose.
Rhodes said McGuire had last been seen on March 30, but was officially reported missing on Sunday, just hours before his body was recovered. She said a group of people fishing at the pond found McGuire's body.
The Effingham County Dive Rescue Team was called just before 7pm to assist the Altamont Police Department with recovering the body, located in a pond just south of Interstate 70 in the 100 block of the frontage road.
The Dive Rescue Team and Altamont police were assisted by the Effingham County Sheriff's Office and the Effingham County Coroner's Office with the initial investigation and recovery of the body. The Dive Rescue Team spent approximately three hours on scene.
